Spring Awakening Show Information
Auditions - April 21st and 22nd, 7:00 to 9:00pm at the A2CT Studio. Arrive no later than 8:00pm
Callbacks - April 23rd at 7:00pm at the Children’s Creative Center, 1600 Pauline
Production Dates - June 5th-7th at 7:30pm, June 8th at 2pm at the Arthur Miller Theatre
Rehearsals - Monday through Thursday starting April 28th at 7:00 and will last until 9 or 10pm as needed.
Conflicts should be minimal and there is a very short rehearsal period. NOBODY can miss any rehearsals from May 26th (Memorial Day evening, which is flexible) onwards.
There are no weekend rehearsals, although you may be asked to come into costume fittings or other odds and ends on weekend days and Tech weekend on May 31/June 1
Spring Awakening Audition Information
Auditions consist entirely of a 32-bar musical selection of your choice. Please bring printed sheet music for the piano accompanist/musical director (provided). Music can be in any style, pop rock Broadway, pop music, something in the style of the show, or something from the show. Anything goes. The emphasis is entirely on vocals in this production and you should have a strong confident vocal style. No recorded audition music or a-capella singing please.
There will be no readings or dance at the auditions, merely vocal.
Casting: 6 “Boys" (18-late 20’s); 5 “girls” (18- late 20’s), 1 Adult Male, and 1 Adult Female — all parts are primary performers, there is no additional “ensemble” in this production. Everyone is required to sing in the show.
Please be familiar with the style of music in this show (alt rock). The cast album is available everywhere musicals can be streamed, and for sale at iTunes, Google Play, and other sites.
The “style” of the show will be similar to the Original Broadway production, and not the recent revival or other productions. There are numerous links to the Original Broadway Cast and Tour online.
Diversity is encouraged, and some of the cast need to feel comfortable with sexual situations, including same-sex situations (indicated in the cast breakdown below).
Sides will be provided for those called back. Note, not everyone may be called back even though you might already be cast. A callback does not indicate you will be cast, nor does not being called back indicate you won’t be cast but will be utilized to make some specific casting decisions. The emphasis in this show is on vocals, movement is minimal, much of it organic and will be taught during rehearsals.

Wendla
Innocent. With every passing day, she grows more curious about the world around her and her changing body. Both vulnerable and a willing participant in her evolution. Explores her newly-found sexuality with Melchior. Includes a non-nude sexual encounter, spanking.

Melchior

Melchior's best friend, a troubled student. He desperately tries to please his father, but always seems to disappoint him. His haunting sexual dreams and academic failures eventually drive him to suicidal thoughts. Strong rock belt.

A rather narcissistic schoolmate of Melchior's. He is comfortable with his own sexuality and uses his looks and intelligence to captivate Ernst. Doubling as RUPERT. Must be comfortable with a same-sex seduction scene, and simulated masturbation on stage under a nightshirt.

Anna
A German schoolgirl and Martha's best friend. Optimistic and a bit naive, she has a difficult time understanding Martha's trials.

Ilse
