Ann Arbor Civic Theatre is a Community Theatre

History

We have an open-door policy, and welcome all members of our community to participate. Ann Arbor Civic Theatre was founded in 1929 (a year after the first Academy Awards were presented!) After 4 years of organizing, the theatre presented its first drama, The Late Christopher Bean. The performance venues, offices & personnel have changed, but we are still here. Hundreds of shows later, we continue to provide theatre opportunities for all members of the community, as well as provide quality entertainment for Southeast Michigan and Northeast Ohio.

  • Presentation of quality theatre performances of the community

  • Open invitation for participation in all aspects of theatrical production

Our Board

Our Board members come from all walks of life and help make sure the work we do is part of the Greater Ann Arbor Community for years to come.

Board members serve terms of 2-3 years and are either elected or appointed. Board meetings are held once a month.

From the A2CT Board

A2CT is preparing for Season 2023-24, and we wanted to share our excitement over changes behind the scenes. Season 2023-24 MainStage production opportunities are modest in comparison to pre-COVID seasons, that is by design.

After a lot of hard work on the part of staff and the Board, A2CT has prepared a budget that will reset and sustain us going forward. While this may seem unworthy of celebration, it provides a much-needed springboard, launching A2CT out of the COVID doldrums and into a brighter future. The budget sets A2CT on a path of sustainable fiscal growth that will build the reserves needed to finance more productions and more elaborate productions over the next three to five years.

Much of the growth comes from strategic use of our 322 W. Ann Street space to generate revenue through an expanded education program for all ages. It also utilizes a greater variety of fundraising approaches, including more community events designed with fun in mind. This organizational reset will ensure A2CT continues to thrive for the next generation of members, donors, patrons, volunteers, friends and guests.

Now that is definitely worth celebrating!
